MSI WindPad 110W eyes-on (video)

Joining its Intel-powered 100W cousin at CeBIT this week is MSI's WindPad 110W, basically an AMD Brazos-powered remix of the original with a slightly different design. You've got an optical pad on the upper part of the right bezel that controls a mouse pointer -- if you're into that sort of thing -- but hopefully you'll be touching the lovely 10.1-inch IPS display (which it shares with the 100W) directly most of the time. We would've liked to have taken the skinned load of Windows 7 for a spin, but MSI had its demo unit set up on a looping video and kept it under glass or in employees' gentle hands for the entirety of our time at the booth, so we didn't get a great sense for performance; they're targeting mid-year for release, though, so they've got some time left on the clock to put some spit and polish on the package. There'll also be a dock available that plugs into a connector in the bottom of the tablet -- it wasn't on-hand, but the company had some prototype docks connected to WindPad 100A dummy units (showing Honeycomb on their fake displays, interestingly, even though live 100As at the show are running Froyo). Yahoo shuts down MyBlogLog, a $10 mil purchase you never heard of

In the grand scheme of things, $10 million isn't a ton of money for a big company like Yahoo! to spend acquiring another company. Still, for an embattled Yahoo!, shutting down MyBlogLog is another sad trombone in its symphony of missteps.

MyBlogLog was a service which allowed bloggers to create a community for their sites. The shutdown was called out in the famous "sunsetting" slideshow in late 2010, where Yahoo! revealed that popular bookmarking site Delicious would also not be part of its future plans.

Despite all this, Yahoo! remains one of the most popular sites on the Internet -- it actually topped ComScore's U.S. traffic chart for January 2011.

TurboTax SnapTax makes filing your taxes picture-perfect

If you are like me and have been putting off filing your taxes for any number of reasons, TurboTax SnapTax is an application you will definitely want to check out. Taking all the information from your W-2 and entering it online can become a pain, especially if you have more then one source of income, but TurboTax has gone above and beyond this year, and made it extremely easy to file. Simply snap a picture of your W-2, give the application a few minutes to pull the needed fields from the image and auto-populate them into your tax forms.

From here you simply go through the information that it pulled and verify that the information is correct. Once you verify the accuracy of the information, you can pay directly through the app and then file your taxes. Within minutes you can file your Federal and State returns, and then sit back and wait for the money to be deposited in your account. While the application itself is a free download from the Android Market, filing will cost $14.99. Readability pulled from App Store, calls out Apple for its greed

Apple's new in-app extortion subscription fee model hasn't made the company many fans since it was announced last week. Apple has further vilified itself by pulling Readability -- a longtime geek favorite -- from the App Store for violating the new in-app subscription rules.

Readability is an odd target, especially considering Apple liked the script enough to build it into its Web browser as Safari Reader. Nevertheless, rules are rules, and Apple helpfully pointed Readability to section 11.2 of the App Store Guidelines, which requires developers to utilize Apple's payment system. The Readability team is pretty miffed, going so far as to say, "we believe that your new policy smacks of greed."

Mac OS X Lion features multi-user remoting, offers inexpensive Windows Server alternative

Right down at the bottom of the Mac OS X Lion page on the Apple website is a tidbit that we should probably pay more attention to: OS X Lion will come with Lion Server built-in. It will be included on the same disc -- it will come pre-installed with every Mac that Apple sells. You will get all of the juicy Server features for free.

Now, this isn't to say that Lion Server has an overwhelming feature set, but it's more than enough to run a home or small business network -- and when you compare it to the cost of a preconfigured Windows Home Server box or Small Business Server 2008, which can be hundreds of dollars, it becomes a very good deal indeed.

If we haven't sold you yet, check out a feature that 9to5 Mac has just discovered in Lion Server: multi-user remoting. Multi-user remoting means that someone can be sitting at a Mac with OS X Lion installed, and someone else can log in remotely without interrupting the current user. If you prefer Windows terminology, it's like running concurrent RDP sessions.

9to5 Mac goes on to mention that if you have MobileMe and combine it with Back to my Mac you should be able to have concurrent users logging in from all over the world. There might be some potential tie-ins with future versions of iOS, too!
